Radio personality Donnie Simpson had a choice. He could either play the music he liked, the funk and old-school R&B that uplifted and inspired, or he could play what boosted ratings, the contemporary songs about "reinventing sex" and "slippery cookies."
When the CBS-owned radio station in Washington, D.C., put the pressure on Simpson to change his playlist, he chose to leave instead of forfeit control.
Donnie Simpson is best known for his run as host of B.E.T.'s "Video Soul," and his role in multiple Hip hop movies including 1983's Hip Hop classic, "Krush Groove" and "Disorderlies" in 1987, as well as Robert Townsend's "Five Heartbeats" in 1991.
