Leland “Lucky“ Johnson was born in Oakland, CA on February 13, 1987. He grew up with his big, immediate family who included his mother, Javonne and his grandparents, Betty and Milton Scott Sr. Despite the harsh
reality of growing up in Oakland, he learned to have a positive outlook
on life thanks to his supportive family. He didn’t actually start to
feel the effects of music until the age of 14, but when it finally hit
him, there was no turning back. Jay-Z and Eminem’s albums inspired him
to pick up the pen and start writing rhymes. At the young age of 14, he
started a group called the “Corruptors” in his hometown, of which
included his friends, Bugsy and Shawn. Lucky was not only writing his
own verses, but wrote his group members’ as well. Because of his clever
lyrics and catchy phrases, the members nicknamed him, “The Mastermind.”
Lucky and his group, now called “Selected Few” who included his close
friends, Jay Bars, Coleone, D-A, Skeptic, and Goophe, started out
battling at parties, kickbacks, and at school, but after about a year,
SF went its’ separate ways. It wasn’t until November of 2007 that Lucky
hooked up with
Sounds Ill Records. He has opened up for many established Bay Area
artists including San Quinn, Traxamillion, Dem Hoodstarz, as well as
performing at the San Jose Improv. He's performed at Hot Import Nights
car show with Nump and Kafani. He also opened up for LiL Flip in Dallas
Texas. Lucky’s first mix tape, Friday the 13th Volume 2, is anticipated
to be released April 2010. Currently. Despite his hectic schedule, Lucky
is at set pace, and has much to say. He hopes to impact his listeners
by being an artist that everyone can relate to, as well as being one of
the hottest emcee’s to enter the hip hop game.
