about phoenixpit...

As my music seeps through the speakers, I think to myself, when will the west be next? Having dealt with the streets through music, I was dealt a bad hand in the beginning. Built up aggression and motivation, captivated me to voice my true realities of the streets and the music industry. Through my melodious cry and taking on the part as an Egyptian mythical bird that never dies, I fly far ahead to the front and always scan the landscape and distant space. This represents my capacity for vision for collecting sensory information about the environment and the events unfolding within it. My music with its great beauty creates intense excitement, and deathless inspiration. Phoenix, now 24 years old has been accustomed to the studio since his adolescent years. Born on the west-side of Cleveland Ohio, this ambitious man strived to be a leader. Growing up fatherless led him to be a role model for his younger brother now incarcerated. This gave him the motivation and inspiration to fulfill his dream. Trapped between a rock and a hard place, he met Shimmy at PATEM down studio through a local artist. Phoenix wondered, how do I find someone trustworthy on the business side of the music?”. This encounter led him to sign an undisclosed contract with Don’t Talk It-Live It Entertainment (DTLT), who pledged to endorse Phoenix. The words and the music spoken through the microphone displays an artist who speaks about broken homes portrayed with shame in one of the poorest city in America. Consistent with loss of jobs due to the high standards of todays society, seeking employment is a difficult challenge in every day life. This theory is stigmatized by many talented proficient artists who seek to get recognition. In an unrecognized market set up by industry standards many talented Cleveland hip-hop-artists have been forced to go underground to get recognition for their music. They do it not only for street recognition, but for the love of making the music. Many artists ask, “Is it the industry, who feels there is no market for currency in Cleveland?. Phoenix made his first public performance at the Rhythm Room. This opened the door to many other venues such as Peabodys Night Club, Berea CafĂ©, Club 112, The Hi-Fi, the Englebrook, Cleveland Coyote, and the Buckeye Festival. Along with that, he was featured on two DVDs; the first one entitled The Footage which made front page of The Lorain Chronicle newspaper, and the other entitled Slobby. Phoenixs first two CDs were with 2-Loc- Out Records, albums titled Luv 4 What I Claim and CLEVELAND. Realizing that there was no unity within the group, he found himself going solo. After going solo, Phoenix has produced several of his own CDs, his first being Hard Rain released in 2001. Thereafter, he has gone on and produced Under Heavy Fire in 2003 and in 2004, he was introduced over college radio doing an interview with the well known after dark DJ Teck Recker after coordinating the group The Animal Pack (AP),and orchestrating the A.P. album entitled, Welcome to My Yard. Phoenix stated in a live college radio interview (91.1) The reason behind the name is because of the different personalities and desires that each member possessed. Phoenix is currently working on two upcoming records to be released through D.T.L.T. by late 2006, or early 2007. As I step out of the car onto the pavement Surrounded by lingering smoke that was released from opening the door, I say to myself peace in time, with time. PHOENIX
