about Big Shane...
A man once said, “Yesterday is history, and today is a gift, that’s why they call it, the present”. That’s why Big Shane is this new generations gift, and has a talent that is amazing when it comes to pursuing a music career. Born in Taegu Korea, but raised in a small town, southwest of Louisiana (Deridder), Big Shane had to be the man and stand out of the crowd and lead by example. Since he can remember, music is what he dreamed about and always wanted to be apart of. Being raised around different types and races of people, he grew up listening to any and every type of music, from old school to new school rap and r&b. He was inspired by any and everybody that had something to do with his favorite 5 letter word M-U-S-I-C.
By the young age of 14, Shane started having thoughts, and paying attention to local artist and relatives that he looked up to, and became interested in music. Taking visits to Houston, Tx, and spending time at Dynomite Studios, Wesley Cross (Big Body) inspired him even more to be apart of the music industry. But all along, he was watching other musicians record and rehearse music, Big Shane focused more on becoming a recording artist instead of a just a music lover. As time passed by, Shane began recording music, and tried to get in any and every studio he could find. He was always told, ”If you want something in life, its not going to come to you, you have to get out and get it on your time”. Needing no mentors, Big Shane was his own mentor, but looked up to others as role models. One of the best moments experienced, was given to him by a friend in his hometown, who gave Big Shane his first chance to perform at the age of 16 at a Back To School Dance. “Me and my team were like the opening acts, performing in front of alot of people that we went to school with, but I was thinking, after we get done, then they will know what I do, and how I do it” explains Big Shane. “We performed the first two songs we ever recorded as a group, and people were amazed, because they didn’t know they had this talent in their schools and city”. Still in all it was a good opportunity for me because I got the chance to perform for the 1st time. Every year after that, it seemed like Big Shane was getting better and better at his craft and taking steps to learn more about the music industry. When holiday breaks, or long weekends out of school, Shane would try and make his way to Houston to get in the studio and work with some of the few who he looked up too.
By the age of 18, Big Shane focused on recording his first mixtape, and networking with alot others, but there were other business moves that had to be taken care of. He had plans, and eventually made them come true, as he started his own label, and became the CEO of his own record label, Cut Tha Check Entertainment, it was now official that Big Shane was destined to make it. In the process of working on his first album, ”The 6’3 G” in April. 2006, Shane learned that the music industry wasn’t going to be easy at all. But with his hard grind and networking skills, Big Shane moved to Austin and release his album, spending days and nights selling copies and passing out copies for free. It was always on his mind to get out and get it, with thoughts of being famous.
In 2007 Big Shane moved out to Houston, where he hooked up with his relatives over at Dynomite Records, and joined labels to make an untouchable team. Within the few months he was there, he was already networking, with help from a good friend and role model Kiotti (Young Ink/Asylum) he learned the ups and downs of the Houston area, and how they are about local talent/artist. After time passed, Big Shane linked up with DJ’s from all across the nation, where he started doing mixtape features and hostings. With alot of help to his MySpace page, Big Shane met alot of new people, and also, helped people meet him, and hear his great sounding music, which they love and always comment about.
With help from artist such as Kiotti, Magno, Blaze Burna, Big Sid, Dirty Mouth, and alot others, and DJs such as, Scrap, Grip, Ryno, Definition Djs. RBS, Rapid Ric, Re-Up, Flipcyide, and the list goes on, Big Shane, at the young age of 19, is destined to get it real soon. With the help of his team, Djs, and artist… Who knows what the future holds for him, but we all know that he will be working hard until he is satisfied with the outcome.
