Cazal Sunglasses and Hip Hop

- blog post from theory, about 1 year ago

I can remember way back when I used to want a pair of Cazal’s just like RUN DMC and The Fat Boys wore on their videos. Cazal Eyewear has endured as the sunglasses of choice for many hip hop artists from RUN DMC to MC Hammer to Fergie of the Black Eye Peas.

Daryl of RUN DMC had probably the most famous pair of oversized glasses that everyone thought were Cazal’s. They are featured on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine and many of their album covers. The glasses are actually called “Ultras” and they are the same frames that Robert Dinero wore in Casino and that Harry Carey, the voice of the Chicago Cubs sported for years.

The Fat Boys wore a lot of the classic Cazal’s like the MOD 607 and MOD 623.

Cari Zalloni of Germany started designing sunglasses in 1975. He had one objective, to create sunglasses that were as unique as they were extravagant. He named the range CAZAL. Cari Zalloni was surprised by the impact his frames made, in the early 80s everyone had to have a pair of the, now legendary, CAZAL sunglasses.

Fergie was seen on her “Glamorous” Live Performance on MTV´S SPRINGBREAK 2007 wearing the Cazal 867 model sunglasses and Kayne West wore the Cazal Targa 901 on his video clip:”Touch the sky” with Pamela Anderson and at the Brit Awards.

R.I.P. The Human Beat Box, Darren “Buffy” Robinson of the FAT BOYS at Venice Beach, California, circa 1985.

I love that pic of Harry Carey kissing Hillary Clinton. Dude is just manhandling her face. I guess that’s what she gets for pretending to be a Cubs fan.

Yo, just stumbled on this site by mistake in my attempts to find me some Cazals. Big ups, propers & snaps for the history lesson and the shout to The Human Beat Box, no doubt! I had a show last night in Berkeley, and rocked my classic, original Ray Ban WAYFARER style joints … sans lenses. Not in the vein of traditional B-boy style, but still so fly.

Love,

Yo!!, R.I.P. Buffy!! Even if times changed, i hope nobody has forgottn about the “FAT BOYS ”. They were HIP HOPS pioneers in the begining of hip hop history like RUN DMC and many other MC’s from the projects that came before them in the late 70’s. Yo! I think i’m gonna sport some Cazals my self. When i see them it brings back memories from when i was kid chilln in Brooklyn and putting in work during the Break,n era when everybody was shown they skills on the floor. You know!!! Peace Out!!!
