“Short Stories” - Too Short’s Ozone Magazine Interview

- news link from TSS Crew, 6 months ago

I think it was more, in plainspeak, Short said & typified what quite a few who grew up with rap in the 80’s and early 90’s realize - we were sold oceanfront property in Arizona. Or rather in the bang bang, shoot’em up streets of various major metropolis areas across the country where crime & lawlessness seemed rampant. We took on this lifestyle, because back then, we didn’t realize that rap was like wrestling - scripted, acted out on stage and on tapes. A part of me says that the rappers spittin the lyrics didn’t initially know the power of the words, similar to how I didn’t know I could actually hurt my little cousin if i dropkicked him from the turnbuckle (read: the top bunk lol). Now, 80’s babies, as well as the generations that followed, realize this…but there’s still those who buy into the stories being engraved into their brains courtesy of the speakers.
