Jay-Z American Gangster First Day Sales
Not that I actually care, but since most of you have become “internet A&Rs”, Jay-Z’s sales of American Gangster appear to be a “non-event” unlike the spectacle the Kanye Vs. Fifty sales race was. In fact, if Amazon.com is any indication of the first week sales, it looks as if Jay’s sales will not eclipse last year’s Kingdom Come (which sold 680,000 in its first week) as it is currently sitting at #8 on Amazon.
However, Jay-Z’s American Gangster album has made it to #1 on The Billboard 200 with an estimated 179,000 units scanned in the first day according to 79% of retailers polled. This puts Jay-Z in a two way tie with Elvis for having 10 albums at the #1 spot on Billboard. Both artists are behind The Beatles who have 19 albums chart. Knowing the kind of competitor Jay is, I think we are in for about 10 more Jay-Z albums.
I’m glad the American Gangster album is not being hyped up so much as it gives the music time to breathe…like it used to be. No one cared about album sales, or even know what The Billboard was. Jay seems to have planned it this way as his album is a throw back to when albums were a complete work of art, instead of radio friendly singles. Though, I’m sure American Gangster will sell decent, it wont be a blockbuster as “the kids” don’t seem to like it. I know, I know everyone’s waiting for Tha Carter 3.

good comment
check it out I’m a 85 baby and even the 85 babies should know that Wayne is probably by far one of the weakest rappers rappin. Then again what do you expect from a grown ass man that call another grown ass man daddy. What more can I say.
wayne = wack.. jay-z = legendary
please don’t ever compare lil wayne to HOVA
lil wayne needs to die
in no way, is he or will he ever BE the ‘greatest rapper’ alive
he shouldn’t even be called a rapper or an artist
Ok, lets be real here folks. Lil Wayne is one of the greatest rappers we have in Hip-Hop today. Most of this BS you hear on the radio now can’t compare to his flow, his style, his swagga, his gift that he gives continuously to this wonderful world of Hip-Hop. However, you can’t speak Weezy & Hova in the same sentence, their non-comparable unless you wanna comepare some of Weezy’s style to that of the great Hova. There are only a few that could be named one of the great, & I feel that Weezy has earned his way into that spot. He’s just not better than Hov. The ones that were better than him are deceased,,,,may they rest in peace!
Yo Nigga u Right about that why will you compare dem together at First??Wayne is too Small
Yo listen wayne is nice he allways shows up on almost every track….but my dude Hov is the best ever he doesn’t need to sell the most or even get the most radio play his music speaks for itself….but wayne might actually be one of the best for this era of hip hop….of course Hov is the greatest of all time…The Mike Jordan of flows/I paint pictures wit poems.
you guys are all crazy. weezy is phenominal because he raps about stuf cooler than the stuf hov is rappin about, and he presents it better too. his drug songs like i feel like dying and la la la take you on a trip as if you are actually on drugs, without actually coming out and saying it. his metaphors are hilarious and he doesn’t know how to make a bad song. thats why the carter 3 is gonna go diamond in like the first month. jay is tight but waaay past his prime. wayne, on the other hand, is like the new bob marley- EVERYONE is a fan. he makes u take a step back and not give a fuck. idk about anyone else, but its been a long time since iv been inspired as heavily from a jay-z song.
