YouTube Wants Unsigned Hip Hop Artists
YouTube OntheRise Rap Edition, seeks to uncover the best unsigned hip hop talent in the United States. Users will be able to submit original music videos from Aug. 10 through Aug. 17. 50 Cent, Common and Polow will judge all of the submissions and pick a winner that will go to New York and record a track for G-Unit/Interscope Records. The winner will also be featured on the homepage of YouTube.com and receive a $10,000 gift certificate to Guitar Center. You can get full contest details at YouTube On The Rise Rap Edition

I wonder if there will be some unsigned hype that comes out of this. Most underground artists don’t have budget for a video. I bet most of the submissions will be live performances for most of the heads. Check out this video snippet of Destro and Karim of Boom Bap Project freestyling.
The $10k Guitar Center prize is pretty nice to get a proper studio set up.
I agree, a music video is hard for a local artist on a budget.
