I don’t agree with T.I and Nelly but I understand. Don’t blame T.I or Nelly for taking advantage of their opportunity (99% of the people in the their situation would have done the same thing). We need to look at the bigger picture. We need to focus on the Puppet Masters and not the puppets. Where are the CEO s of major record labels and owners of the radio stations? They’re the ones telling T.I and Nelly what will sell. They’re the ones who decide which record will be on the playlist for the radio stations. Hip-hop was not started with gangster rap and it doesn’t need it to survive. In the words of Public Enemy “Don’t believe the Hype!”

I respect the last two comments but I have to say..once upon a time I used to blame hip hop for the social problems that African Americans face…but its not their fault they just make music about what they know and what they have experienced and it sells but Nelly made a good point saying that we only make up 15-20 percent of the population here in the United States so its not us or our people who are the ones really buying the records. We might glamorize it through our youth but who pays the way for our youth THEIR PARENTS , no one has yet to call the resposibility or the lack of responsibility. If parents monitor what their kids here by blocking explicit websites or not purchasing explicit music cds and also explaining to their children between fact and fiction then they will not have such or a high negative impact or influence on the kids. Further for all those older gentlmen who are pointing the finger and the young hip hop heads who they blame for creating this negative image of our women or our youth with violence. I ask them where were they when these rappers were growing up in the hood and slanging dope…If its such a big problem then why is it continuing, why are our black males between the ages of 17-26 in prison at an extreme rate versus at someones college, its not becuase of hip hop its because the lack of leadership and togetherness from our so called leaders. All in closing I just want to say rappers are just rapping about the life they had to live on the streets in there hoods or ghettos and that many young african american males indure everyday trying to hustle or stay alive… so in regards to that maybe the hip-hop is not degrading or bringing down our image or our culture but maybe its a tool trying to shine and make people aware of the troubles our people face and the fact that we need help to enrich our youth rather than argue and point the finger at who we think is at fault …then maybe we can unit and make difference or change our or save our young people.

hi my name is bridget gilmer and i am 15 yrs old. i am one of many teenagers who know they have a mind of thier own. i take the choice to use the mind and the sense that god gave me. it starts at home. if u start a child in the way they should go then they wont go astray. i listen to everything from lil boosie to scarlito or cupid to dj unk or T.I.. my parents taught me how to be the independent, strong, intelligent, young lady that i am. yea i have alot more growing to do but im not gonna let the media in any form influence my actions. i say to my peers, ” stay true and be a leader not a follower. have a mind of ur own and NEVER be afraid to use it”

my name is princess, i am an 18 year old student in college and i agree that hip hop has a huge influence on society but if you are not a statistic in society there is nothing hip hop or any body can say to you to make you do this or that. It is about personal choice and moral that you have within you and if you have none than who are you to blame. i know that sometimes it is only natural to blame your parents for the way you grow up but you have to be you and really try to use what you see as a steping stone for your life and not an excuse. its OKAY to be different and set your own trend for what is real in you. And i believe that is what the rappers have done. NO everything they do is not always positive and right but you cant pull the wool over the eyes of the youth because they will find a way to see, whether that is through you as a parent or the peers in society.
