To “win” a battle, you have to A.) attack the credibility and actions of the other participant and B.) be sure none of your own history can come back and bite you in the ass. If you can’t secure Point B, the best way to defend against it to go on the offensive and address the things head-on that the other person might try to say about you. If you can make jest of yourself and your own misgivings, you can take some of the power of the punch from the next dude.
